It's not a done deal, but in anticipation of SpaceX landing in our backyard State Representative René Oliveira has filed a special legislation bill.

The legislation proposed would allow Cameron county beaches to shut down when a launch takes place, excluding major summer holidays or the weekends, preceding them. These closures would also have to be approved by the General Land Office as Public Relations Director Michelle Lopez stated, "We're still under the environmental study that has been conducted since last month, in May,  since last year."

Another public hearing is scheduled for April as we continue to compete with Florida and Puerto Rico for the launch site. Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, will be making a special visit to Austin on Friday.

SpaceX coming in could be one of the biggest boons to our economy in the LGV's history. Professionals and highly skilled technicians will come to the area. They will bring their tax dollars, and they are likely to demand improved infrastructure, services, and schools, so we'll put those tax dollars to constructive years. A few years down the line, because of the challenges the students here already will face and the enhanced resources, the locals will become professionals and skilled technicians
