Today's media allows kids to communicate through several mediums such as testing, i-Pods, the Internet and more, but with these new forms of communication, students aren't learning to write in a way that will get them through school or even into college.

That is why the State Board of Education recently approved a new program called the Texas Writing Coach. This program will be offered to middle and high schools to use in their 2011 to 2012 school year. Writing Coach is an online program that can be used in the classroom and at home.

"One of the great things about writing coach is that it actually provides instantaneous feedback to students. It looks at important topics as they're writing such as sentence structure, redundancy in words, the relevance to the topic, different other skills related to writing," said Adriana Villarreal, Writing Coach Spokesperson.

The program will allow teachers to customize their teaching style to better fit their students because it will show the teacher what problems that group of students is specifically facing. There is no word yet on whether schools in the Valley will be bringing this into their curriculum, but schools should start making decisions in the spring.
