San Juan police arrested Texas State trooper Aristeo Nereo Cantu after he assaulted his wife on Sunday.

Police reports indicate that the couple were traveling eastbound on Expressway 83 on Sunday morning and the both began to argue. When the two pulled over, Cantu exited the car and then struck his wife in the stomach and face. Cantu was arraigned and given a $5,000 dollar bond and he has been suspended from the department pending an internal investigation.
