RIO GRANDE VALLEY - The STARS scholarship program is back in action this year and is taking applications now from students.

STARS stands for South Texas Academic Rising Scholars it's a community based scholarship organization that raises funds for the students across South Texas. This year they have raised more than $1 million dollars for the fund. The program is a competitive scholarship and STARS officials say normally more than six thousand students apply for only eleven hundred spots.
