Spring Break on South Padre Island

Spring break is here on South Padre Island.
There is plenty of music, spring breakers from Texas and around the country enjoying the sun and even some skydiving.

"It's awesome look at this look at the crowd everyone is having fun hopefully everyone is going to come out and have a great time at Coca Cola Beach no problems just everyone have fun." said skydiver Frank Shisler.

Island officials say during prime time Texas week they can expect about 10,000-15,000 people on Coca Cola Beach."

Mary Kay Hancock is the special events manager on South Padre Island.
She says those big numbers coming to the island means a big boost to their economy.

"Next to July with our families, March is our biggest money maker." Said Mary Kay Hancock.

She says during Texas week hotels will be about 90% full.
As for safety Island officials say there is plenty of law enforcement and plenty of medical staff. They have 3 medical tents set up by Coca Cola Beach and the SPI chamber of Commerce...they can treat 16 patients in each of the tents.
Also they will have for the first time what’s called an Ambus.

"It has a staff of six and we can transfer up to 18 people on stretchers or 24 people sitting down, there are different configurations inside the bus." said Danny Ramirez.
