South Padre Island celebrated its tourists and visitors with one big bash this afternoon at the Visitors Center.

Dozens of people showed up to celebrate National Tourism Week. Every year, the Convention Center and the Visitors Center hosts a "Thank You for Visiting South Padre Island" picnic with music, food, shopping and activity options.

Officials say visitors are the primary source of income in regards to South Padre Island's economy.

"We get over a million visitors a year, and we bring in over two billion dollars in commerce on the Island so you know, that's a big portion of the Valley's taxes," said South Padre Island city manager.

"We came down Saturday, just for vacation, you know, a little getaway," said tourist Dorothy Woods. "It's beautiful, we're enjoying it very much."

The picnic went from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
