After two hurricanes causing damage to the South Padre Island crews worked hard to restore the beach. Recently the Island was awarded by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association as one of the best restored beaches in the country.
Last year hurricane's Ike and Dolly caused some serious damage to the beach causing erosion and problems to the sand dunes.
The Town of South Padre Island did several projects to help get the beach back to normal.
Island crews continue to water the vegetation on the dunes and restore them to look like did before the hurricane hit.
The island was only one of 7 beaches in the country to get this prestigious award. Representatives from the island will go to Washington in March for a special presentation.
