BROWNSVILLE - More than a thousand special needs students from the district had a unique experience on Tuesday for the 13th annual Kids at the Movies event.

For many of these children it was their first movie theater experience of their lives and each child got popcorn and a fruit drink. Fifty UTB students, from several of the allied health and nursing programs, were on hand to help with the children and for the volunteers the day meant just as much to them as it did to the children. Event Coordinator Dr. Eldon Nelson stated, "When we step in here and we experience this wonderful opportunity to share with our community and the children of these kinds of needs. When we step out of here we are enhanced, our hearts are large, out spirits are up. It is an extraordinary event that affects us deeply."

When the event first started, fourteen years ago, there were less than a hundred children participating. On Monday, more than thirteen children got to join in the fun.
