Southwest Workers Union Protest for Immigrant Rights

Thursday, July 2, 2009 - 9:22am

A group from the Southwest Workers Union in the Valley spent the day in the streets of McAllen protesting the Port Isabel Detention Center.

They held signs that read "Justice" and the group claims immigrants held there are on their 10th day of hunger strike to retaliate against the guards and higher officials. The inmates tell the union they don't get proper medical attention and are even placed in cells with other inmates who have the swine flu.
