Gun parts and ammo found inside stuffed animals at Rhode Island airport.

Federal transportation officials found gun components and ammunition hidden inside three stuffed animals carried by a passenger at Rhode Island's T.F. Green Airport on Tuesday.

The TSA found the disassembled gun in three stuffed animals while screening the carry on bag of a young boy traveling to Detroit with his father.

The TSA says the .40 caliber gun was artfully concealed in different pieces in the three animals.

The main frame was inside a bear, a magazine loaded with two .40 caliber rounds was inside a bunny and a firing pin was inside Mickey Mouse.

The Rhode Island Airport Police were called in.

They seized the gun and interviewed the man who said he had no idea the gun was there.

After that, both he and his son were then allowed to continue on their flight.

“I just can’t imagine anybody letting him continue on his trip without getting answers to the questions: What was he thinking? Why was he doing that? And for the officials to sit back and say, ‘Could he have posed a danger?’ And if he could, why are we letting him move on to potentially do it again?” one man said.

But according to police, they had a reason to let the man go.

“It appears to be the result of a domestic dispute. It was jointly investigated by the Rhode Island Airport Police, the FBI, and the Rhode Island State Police, and it was determined that there was no threat to air safety at any time,” said Chief Leo Messier, Rhode Island Airport Police.

Passengers at T.F. Green were thankful the system worked.

“That's great. I know a lot of people don't like the screening procedure, but I’m thankful that they really screen people and we feel much safer because of it,” one woman said.

The matter is under investigation.
