MCALLEN- For some its a disgusting addiction. For others its an expensive habit. That's why many people in the upper valley are taking a different approach when it comes to smoke. Charles Wilson has been running an upper valley smoke shop for almost 10 years. He says smokers have wised up when it comes to lighting up.
Rolling your own cigarettes will save you money. Especially since buying tobacco and filter tubes separately is significantly cheaper than buying name brand cigarettes. Some smokers in the valley will pay up to $80 for a carton of cigarettes but if you go to a smoke shop and roll your own, it only costs about $15. That's over $60 in savings. Which can be a lot of money in these tough economic times.
Wilson says many people buy name brand cigarettes because of the convenience and because many just don't know how easy it is to roll it themselves.
