Summer is coming with a vengeance, especially for Texans.

Whether you're taking in the rays to swim, surf, sunbathe, or stroll along the beach, it's very important to protect your skin from the sun's intensity. If you're not careful, you could develop Melanoma or another form of skin cancer.

“The incidents of melanoma is skyrocketing more than any other cancer… one million Americans goes in die-boxes or tanning booths every day and that’s just a huge amount of people. There’s a perception with a lot of people that being tan makes you look healthy and attractive, and uh, that’s a factor.”

Fortunately, there are certain things you can do to prevent skin cancer from happening.

“If you’re gonna spend a significant portion of your day exposed to the sun, make sure you have SPF 30 sunscreen lotion like this one. It’ll help protect you from 95% of the sun’s extremely powerful rays.”

“As long as you keep it on and you re-apply it as you’re swimming or sweating, uh, it’s an extremely worthwhile entity.”

Besides exposing yourself to the sun at earlier hours, Dr. Schwartz provides some other advice on how to protect your skin.

“Wear a hat, consider wearing, uh, some sun protective clothing. Stay away from tanning booths. Those would be great things to do.”
