California grocery store worker serenades his customers.
A California produce worker produces much more than fruits and vegetables. He's a music man at heart, a gift he shares with his customers.
This time of year, you hear music in almost any store.
The difference here, it's live.
During his 41 years in produce, Alex Larez has produced his fair share of strange looks. Along with a reputation. You can imagine the first time some customers see this, they think he's well, you know.
But after awhile, he kinda grows on you.
In fact, there's never been a single complaint.
Alex Larez says "there's customers that come in and if I'm not singing, they ask, why aren't you singing, and I say whoops."
The question is why?
Alex Larez says "my grandparents sang. We worked in the house. we sang at the house. It's just relaxing. That's why I do it."
Alex Larez says "my dad used to love that song. He was in WWII in Germany."
But aside from a genetic passion for music, he says he just loves helping people.
Alex Larez says "need any help, ask me, you don't bother me at all. Never look at the negative stuff. That's easy to always remember. Look at the joy of everything. Focus on things that are happy."
But as much as he loves his job, Alex says in a few years he'll likely retire from working produce.
Alex Larez says "as long as I live. Until I can sing upstairs."
