Shrimp Season Begins In The Texas Coast

Crews were busy loading up supplies Thursday as Friday is the first day of fishing in Texas coast. Most of the 165 boats will head out in the Gulf Thursday.

"Generally we take off a day ahead that way it gives the crew a chance to get rested and get ready for the big night."

Roberto Estrada is getting his netting ready. He's been shrimping for more than 30 years.

"I hope it's a good season every year is different some the first day you don't catch too much, the next day you catch the shrimp."

Estrada is married to his wife who is a teacher.

"I miss the family once I am out I hope the family misses me too."

Shrimpers had the chance to shrimp in the Louisiana while Texas coast was closed by Reyes says this is there bread and butter season and they will shrimp for quite some time.

"We will fish all the way through February then will go into the March, April, May's is the slow part of the year.

Reyes says reports show they are expecting have a below average production...but he and the shrimpers say they are hoping for the best.
