NUEVA CIUDAD GUERRERO, MEXICO- A shoot out on Falcon Lake leaves one Mexican Marine and 12 suspected Zeta cartel members dead. According to Mexican Navy officials, the shooting happened Sunday afternoon on an island on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake.

The marines were patrolling the area when they came across a camp said to be controlled by the Zetas. In the end one marine and 12 suspects were killed.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said he didn't know about the shooting and wonders why the Mexican Navy didn't notify his office, so his deputies could be on stand-by in case any of that violence spilled over in to the U.S.

"I really think we should be notified especially when we have a direct interest incase someone runs away from that area they are going to be coming over here. and we should be notified when things like that happen but then again it gets frustrating when we don't get called," said Sigifredo.  "As a matter of fact I had deputies sheriff ready to go yesterday in another operation we could of easily gone to that area and just looked around with our cameras and stuff in that area."

Mexican officials said the camp on the island was used as a stopping point to transport marijuana to the US.
several weapons were also seized.
