The Cameron County Sheriff says a man killed his wife and then pulled the gun on himself as his oldest son watched. The Sheriff says 43 year old Sergio Lamas killed both himself and his wife. Lamas's son was in the home at the time when the sheriff says his father pulled the trigger.
Here at 1046 North Illinois around 1am sheriff deputies responded to the scene after getting a call that shots were fired inside the residence. This is the home of Sergio Lamas. When they arrived Lamas's 21 year old son said shots were fired in his parents bedroom.
"He opened the bedroom door and noticed the body on the floor and was his mother, and immediatly after that saw his father shot himself."
Sheriff Omar Lucio says that the mother was shot 2-3 times in the chest and the father shot himself in the head.
The motive is still unknown but the Sheriff says Lamas has been in trouble in the past when he was arrested for family disturbance.
Lamas and his wife are survived by their 21 year old son and a younger son. The sheriff's department will be performing an autopsy on both lamas and his wife to determine the exact cause of death.
