Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe Trevino announces immediate retirement. Here is the complete text of his letter to the County Judge:

"I (Sheriff Guadalupe Trevino) will be retiring effective Friday, March 28, 2014. My decision is the result of the internal and external pressures placed upon me since December 12, 2012. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office being the 8th largest sheriff's office in the state deserves dedicated and focused attention which I have not been able to give it. In solace, I can proudly say that I will be leaving the HCSO in better shape as compared to when I took command in January 2005. Our accomplishments too many to mention, are highlighted by achieving the lowest violent and over-all crime rate in 20 years. In addition, we have received state wide recognition for our crime fighting and domestic abuse initiatives. The construction of our East Side Sub-Station, the implementation of our wireless reporting system, and the current construction of our state of the art communication systems also tops the list. Personally, I believe  that our greatest accomplishment is the development of a strong HCSO/Community Partnership. Regaining the lost public confidence in our capabilities as crime fighters and public servants is a strong factor responsible for our declining crime rate. I am also very proud of the focus we gave to improving the quality of life of all HCSO employees. Without their efforts, none of our accomplishments would have been possible."
