EDINBURG – Nearly 200 thousand Senior Texans have received prescription drug cost relief in the form of a donut-hole check.

Under the new Affordable Care Act, seniors whose prescription drug costs were so high that they fell into the Medicare Prescription Drug Donut-Hole are receiving checks.

Seniors in the donut-hole pay over $2,800 dollars in covered drug costs, but less than $4500. Checks are still being mailed out now to those seniors who fall into this group.

"The check is a tax free, one-time 2-hundred 50 dollar rebate check that senior citizens who are impacted by that donut-hole are being helped," said Ruben Hinojosa, U.S. Representative.

There is a current repeal vote by the House Republicans that would eliminate all these new benefits. But Hinojosa said he is confident that Senate Democrats and President Obama will block this repeal effort and prevent it from taking effect.
