HIDALGO - Each year the Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce chooses a Border Texan of the Year person to thank and give tribute for their contributions to the Valley.
The person selected for the recognition is congratulated during a Borderfest and this year the chamber chose State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa. The committee responsible for choosing Senator Hinojosa says the work he has done make the Valley a better place. Senator Hinojosa says he's honored to being chosen and said, "I am very supportive of this organization, I truly believe in public service. I truly believe that people who succeed need to give back to the community to provide opportunity for other people to be able to be successful. I believe we should help to improve quality of life for all of us here in the Valley."
Proceeds from the Borderfest are given to the award winners chosen charities and this year's recipients are South Texas College, Vannie E. Cook Children's Cancer Foundation, Hidalgo I.S.D., Valleyview I.S.D. and the McAllen Boys and Girls Club.
