U.S. Senator John Cornyn met with Valley officials and law enforcement to talk about border security and other border issues.

Cornyn is proposing legislation to provide 5,000 full time Custom and Border Protection officers along the border as well as 350 full time support staff at the port of entries. He also is seeking that the Department of Homeland Security provide border officials with secure communication equipment. The goal is to help streamline communication between the ports and inspection stations. Senator Cornyn stated, "And working together with our friends in Mexico to make sure whether it's the bulk cash transfer form drug sales in the United States or weapons, that we are looking and working together to try to keep the borders open and to keep them safe and to keep them secure. It's not an easy job but we can do it. If we commit the resource and the people and the technology to make that happen."

The legislation is calling for $6 billion dollars in additional personnel and infrastructure at the ports of entry.
