The Texas Senate committee passed Bill 492 which would create a specialized daycare facility for special needs children.
The bill would allow the Department of Aging and Disability Services to license and regulate non-residential medical facility, known as Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center, for children with complex disabilities requiring in-home nursing or hospitalization.
The centers allow those children receive proper care in a child friendly environment compared to being at home or in a hospital while socializing with other kids.
Children who are eligible to attend the centers would receive skilled nursing supervision. Currently, children are getting nursing care under the Medicaid program, but with Bill 492 parents could decide which of the two options works best for their child.
The bill will now be considered by the full Senate before going to the Texas House of Representatives for passage.
