Two eighteen wheelers were involved in an accident, which caused the expressway in Harlingen to shut down.

Rainy weather caused one of the semis to skid out of control and collide with a light pole just off Expressway 77 near the Primera Road exit.

The second semi tried to apply its breaks to avoid the accident in front of it. This caused the vehicle to hydroplane and roll over, blocking the entire northbound lanes of the expressway.

Two people are in the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Police are still gathering more details.

"They hit a puddle of water, they lost control, the vehicle started to swerve a little bit, and as he tried to attempt to correct it, the first semi ended up over here, and the second semi, to avoid the accident itself, tried to evade the actual collision and caused itself to roll over," said Harlingen police officer Jose Gonzalez.

The Harlingen Police department investigated the scene from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. They're telling drivers to keep out a cautious eye out for rainy weather.
