14-year-old vanishes while walking near her Wichita home.

Police in Wichita, Kansas are looking for a missing teenage girl.

Katelyn Barrett, 14, was last seen early Wednesday morning leaving her home.

She told her family she couldn’t sleep and was going for a walk.

She was text messaging her brother until about 1 a.m., and then she stopped replying.

Her brother told their mom, who tried calling Katelyn, but the calls went straight to voice mail.

Katelyn is from Minnesota.

She moved to Wichita just two days ago because she wanted to live with her mom.

“She was communicating with them when she was gone, so we don't fell like this is a typical teenager that's maybe being rebellious,” said Lt. Doug Nolte wit the Wichita Police Department. “We don't have any indication that that's what's going on.”

“We think that she probably doesn’t know a whole lot of people other than her immediate family,” said Lt. Sam Hanley with the Wichita Police Department. “Her immediate family is here at the residence and we’ve contacted them and they’re beside themselves. They don’t know where she could be.”

Police are using a helicopter, mounted units and canine units to assist in the search.

Detectives are also on the scene.

Katelyn is Native American and stands about 5’7” and weighs about 120 lbs.

She was last seen wearing a yellow El Dorado T-shirt, brown shorts and green flip flops.

Anyone with any information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call the Wichita Police Department.
