Search For Soldier Continues
Teams comb through North Carolina forests in search of missing Fort Bragg soldier.
Police say they've spoken with a man twice in connection with the disappearance of a Fort Bragg Soldier.
Kelli Bordeaux, 23, was last seen early Saturday morning at Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
She was reported missing Monday when she did not report for duty.
During a press conference Wednesday, Fayetteville Police Chief Thomas Bergamine said they spoke with Nicholas Holbert twice in connection with Bordeaux's disappearance.
Bergamine, however, would not disclose how the woman and Holbert are connected, other than he was somehow associated with Froggy Bottoms bar.
Detectives say they believe Bordeaux may be in danger and the case is still being considered a missing person investigation and "there is still a lot that is not known at this time and that is part of the active investigation."
"The fact that no one has heard from her, the information we've received from her unit and command at Fort Bragg, very good soldier, not the type of person that would come up being AWOL or missing and the fact that no one has heard from her since," Bergamine said.
Bergamine said records show her cell phone pinged off towers near the North Ramsey corridor, which led them to search the I-295 area.
Wednesday afternoon, Fayetteville Police and Cumberland County Sheriff's investigators searched the area of a pond near Dobbin Holmes Road in Eastover as well as the I-295 area.
Bergamine confirmed in a press conference Wednesday night that police did search in the Dobbin Holmes Road area after receiving an undisclosed tip.
He also said police would return to that area Thursday morning to continue the search.
Kelli's husband Mike Bordeaux is a civilian and family members say he's devastated by her disappearance.
Bergamine says Bordeaux's husband was not with her at the bar that night and he is cooperating with authorities.
Mike Bordeaux would not say where he was on Friday or over the weekend, but did confirm that he was not at the apartment.
He says they have been married for two years and describes the marriage as "happy."
He says they are not estranged, as police have reported.
"I would never lay a hand on her," he said.
He says he talked with Kelli at 3 p.m. Friday but she did not say she was going out and she acted as if everything was fine.
He added that he is cooperating with detectives and has been advised by police to not talk with media.
Later Wednesday, Mike Bordeaux told NBC News that he was in Florida when Kelli went missing.
Mike Bordeaux said he thought about joining Kelli's sister Tuesday at a press conference, but decided against it.
He was out at the search site Wednesday morning, but says authorities told him it would be best if he left in case anything was found that they wouldn't want him to see.
Kelli is described as being 5 feet 1 and weighs just more than 100 pounds.
