Scouts Talk to Astronaut

Dozens of boy scouts from around the Valley at Camp Perry just north of Rio Hondo got to talk to astronaut Mike Fossum who is currently 200 miles above earth's surface.
Fossum was an eagle scout when he was in the scouts. Fossum is from McAllen and fielded questions from scouts including what is it like during lift off.


"It's pretty intense because you are sitting on top of a rocket, and your excited, this case I had trained for many years for this opportunity and you have an adrenaline rush and your excited to finally do it."

Fossum has more than 15 year experience working with NASA. Scouts on had this to say about talking to fossum.

"I thought it was really great an honor taking an astronaut that's a once in a lifetime opportunity."
"Just exciting to talk to astronaut that used to be here on the very camp site, its very exciting."
"Its not an everyday thing you talk to an astronaut, it was exciting to talk to him and ask my question."

While Fossum was on the phone he explained the importance of scouting and how it helps him with NASA.

"Teamwork that you learn through scouting applies to life people want team player for work for jobs they also want leaders people that know how to get things done stick to a job and task thats what something like eagle scouts proves."
