Schreiber Foods, Pal-Con Ltd. partner for $247,879 job-training grant
AUSTIN, TX — Schreiber Foods and Pal-Con Ltd. have partnered with Ranger College to provide job training using a $247,879 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions North Central Texas area.
The grant will be used to custom train 351 new and incumbent workers through general manufacturing and safety coursework. Those trained will include machine operators, material handlers and production operators. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $13.87.
“This grant reflects the strength of the Texas economy as two employers, one large and one small, partner with their local community college to provide training for their employees, ” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Hope Andrade. “Your Texas Workforce Commission is proud to be making yet another investment to further develop skilled workers for our state’s manufacturing industry.”
From the program’s inception in 1996 through 2013, Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 300,456 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 3,971 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated nearly $48 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2014-15 biennium.
