Local school districts and Universities below have canceled classes for students and staff.

Lyford ISD has announced a early release at 2:30 PM for Thursday and classes are cancelled for Friday.

U-T Brownsville and TSC will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The Los Fresnos CISD announces school closure for all its schools for Thursday, February 3, 2011, due to the weather and its effects on roads and electrical power. Our parents, students, and staff are asked to stay tune for announcements on Friday’s determination. Harlingen ISD schools will all be closed on Thursday, including evening activities, due to weather and power interruptions.

Living Way Christian School in Brownsville Closed Thursday.

Incarnate Word Academy in Brownsville is closed Thursday and Friday.

Nino's Incorporated Head Start Program in Cameron & Willacy County closed Thursday.

South Texas College is closing all activities at 5 PM and resume on Thursday at all locations at 10 AM.

Santa Maria ISD will be closed on Thursday.

Port Isabel ISD will be closed on Thursday and Friday for students and staff.

Raymondville ISD will be closed on Thursday.

Rio Hondo schools are planning to start late Thursday at 10 AM.

MIssion CISD will delay start of school on Thursday by one hour.

McAllen ISD schools will open later than usual for the rest of the week. The new school start times are as follows for Thursday, February 3 and Friday, February 4.

High schools (includes I & G, Lamar Acad. and Early College HS): 9:30 a.m.

Middle schools: 9:45 a.m.

Elementary schools: 10 a.m.

TSTC Harlingen will be closed on Thursday and Friday for students and staff because of travel safety precautions. Classes will resume on Saturday according to regular schedule.

IDEA Public Schools is closing the following two campuses Thursday, February 3, 2011:

IDEA Frontier
2800 S. Dakota
Brownsville, TX 78521

IDEA San Benito
2151 Russel Lane
San Benito, TX 78586

All other IDEA schools will be open as usual. Classes will resume Friday until further notice. Please check the IDEA Web site for further updates at www.ideapublicschools.org.

Hello R G V'ers and especially Brownsville residents. As I sit here in Kansas City ... a former Brownsville resident ... I think of y'all and the weather you're having. Don't feel too bad ... right now it's 12 BELOW ZERO outside with about 12 to 15 inches of SNOW on the ground. I know it's bad for the "valley" right now, but, take it from me, it could be A LOT worse.
