It was a heavier traffic day for the City of McAllen as the first day of school began putting more vehicles on the road. There was a big increase in traffic, but most motorist say they expected the increase because of parents leaving off children at schools. The school district, along with the McAllen Police Department, have partnered to regulate the increase in traffic throughout the city as McAllen I.S.D. Superintendent James Ponce stated, "Part of it is we look at the traffic patterns and some of it we take on and we know in the higher areas in the city streets not around the school, the city takes on and so there's a good coordination."
