An early morning house fire sent a man to the hospital in San Juan.

San Juan fire officials say the fire started around 5am on Thursday morning in one of the bedrooms inside a house on South Kansas Avenue. San Juan Fire Chief Tirso Garza says three people inside the home escaped before the fire spread. The homeowner, who is his 60's, tried to put out the blaze himself and suffered smoke inhalation and EMS crews took him to McAllen Medical Center.

As firefighters fought the flames and then learned ammunition inside the home could go off and evacuated the home. Investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the fire and the home is completely destroyed.
