San Benito officials are debating their city's population, which doesn't add up to the officials U-S Census Bureau's numbers.

Population signs in San Benito suggest that the city has about 24 thousand residents, but the city says that number is actually closer to Thirty Thousand.

City manager Manuel Lara says there are at least two population signs that differ in numbers and need to be corrected.

Lara says the accurate number should be placed on the sign because more than 5 thousand people have slipped under the radar.

there's speculation some undocumented immigrants avoided the census survey, fearing deportation.

Harlingen also claims that 8 thousand people in their city are unaccounted for.
