San Benito mother charged after toddler found wandering on Business 77

San Benito police arrested a mother for abandonment and endangering a child after her 18 month-old daughter is found wandering the street.

On Sunday, September 23rd officers responded to the 300 block of East Business 77 in reference to a child found wandering on street by a concerned motorist.

The good Samaritan informed police that they had witnessed the child, a girl, attempting to cross the road after a small dog. The child, which was cryinig, was able to point to an apartment complex, located on the 800 block of N. Reagan Street.

Officers were able to find the apartment where the child resided and made contact with the grandmother and the mother, Carilu Rivera, 32, and determine the child was under the care of Rivera.

Rivera was arrested and charged with abandon/endangering a child with imminent danger and the child was placed in the care of a family member
