Devastated family and friends paid their respects to Rose Marie Gonzalez at a rosary tonight held at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.
Gonzalez’s good friend, Angela Moreno, tells us the last conversation she had with Gonzalez was in December. She remembers Gonzalez told her she was moving back to Georgia because there were men that wanted to kill her.
But she never made it back to Georgia. Harlingen Police found Gonzalez dead and stuffed in her refrigerator Monday afternoon. Moreno, who hadn't spoken to Gonzalez since December, tells us she found out about her death on TV and although police weren't disclosing the identity at the time, she had a feeling it was her best friend who had been killed.
She was saying that she was afraid because there were gangsters out there. She would tell her mom she was afraid a gang was after her."
Moreno and Gonzalez met two years ago and had been very close since then.
"She was loving, caring and she took the time to listen to whatever you had to say. She was there when I needed her."
Gonzalez leaves four children behind. The youngest was only a few months old.
