Jailed man says drug dealers held his family hostage and forced him to commit crime.

A Kentucky man claims drug dealers held his family hostage and forced him to rob a gas station earlier this week.

Daniel Ashcraft told the clerk in the Scott County Shell Station he needed the money to support his six children as he robbed the business Monday night.

Now he says that's what three men armed with crowbars and threatening his family told him to say.

"It wasn't my choice to rob that Shell," he said in a jail house interview. "They threatened to kill me and burn down my grandmother's house, burn them alive pretty much, if I didn't go and rob this Shell."

He says the three men were drug dealers who'd given him pills to sell.

He never gave them the cash back.

The 19-year-old says from the moment he entered that store, he wanted to get caught.

"I didn't wear gloves for a reason. I opened the door with my hands for a reason, so they'd get my fingerprints, so I could tell my story," he says.

Now that he has, Ashcraft says he's ready for a new start.

"When I get out of here, I'm going to go to rehab. I'm not going to do anymore drugs," he says.
