Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Organization Shuts Down
MCALLEN — Professional hockey is leaving the Valley as the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees announced that they will no longer be competing in the Central Hockey League. The team had been around for nine years and due to financial difficulty and the decreased interest in the team the organization has decided to close its' doors. President Trey Medlock said about the closure, "I look back 10 years ago when we started. How much fun it was and getting people to believe that hockey would work and it did work down here for a long time, but it just unfortunately ran it's course." A junior league, competing with other teams across Texas, will take to the ice after the Bees leave.
