The Rio Grande Valley Food Bank is getting closer to being back in business.

The Texas State Health Department impounded the food bank last week after rat droppings were found inside.  Inspectors have stopped by everyday in the last week for check ups.

The food bank could resume operations on Thursday.  The health department says it's looking for the rat issue to be cleared up before allowing the food bank to resume operations.

"It has been an annoying struggle against these rats, but I think we have it totally under control now," said RGV Food Bank CEO Terri Drefke. "Knowing that they can chew through concrete block is quite frustrating, we just have to figure out stronger chemicals to keep them out of the building."

Drefke said she's known about the rat problem "for some time," but added that the rats are "100 percent" gone.
