The Border Patrol chief for the Rio Grande Valley sector is retiring. Rosendo Hinojosa's last day will be Friday.

He has been with the Border Patrol for 28 years. The Rio Grande Valley sector covers the area from Roma all the way up the Gulf Coast to the Louisiana state line.

He oversees more than 3,000 officers and civilian employees.

"I always tell people, I'm the one responsible, when something goes bad or something goes good, I get the credit," Hinojosa said. "But really, the ingenuity, the drive, the tenacity, the pride, the honor, that our men and women and employees have... It's simply amazing and something that I'll take with me the rest of my life."

The sector's deputy chief Raul Ortiz will serve in the interim as the organization searches for a full-time replacement.
