The Texas Dept. of Public Safety has just unveiled it's new updated sex offender registry.
This will help the public keep a closer eye on these offenders.
DPS is now making it easier for everyone to find out more about sex offenders living in your area.
The revamped web site will now allow users to subscribe to e-mail notifications about changes in a sex offender's record and zip code.
When you log on, you'll also find more accurate ways to search by name, address, zip code, and county.
It will also tell you how close a sex offender lives to your home.
Other new features include the offender's work address, school, if they attend one and past offenses in Texas or other states.
Cameron County's Adult Probations Sex Offender Unit Supervisor, Angie Saenz says, these new features will provide much more safety for the community, and give the sex offenders very little privacy.
The newly designed web site took many months, and cost 1.2 million dollars to update.
Cameron County currently has 478 registered sex offenders.
Hidalgo County has 500 offenders listed. Starr has 36. In Willacy County, there are 22 on the site.
