CAMERON COUNTY - County officials say the rain is helping with the drought conditions with the heavy showers this past week.

Emergency Coordinator Humberto Barrera says the ground had been in desperate need of the moisture, but he warns residents to still be careful as fires can spark up quickly in these conditions, "Cold weather and rainy the you got the possibility of structure fires when people trying to turn on their furnaces. Of course, you get gas leaks and you get all kinds of different issues that happen when people trying to stay warm so we continue to let people know to that, practice safety at home."
