BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Law enforcement says it's a quick way to make a buck, but a dangerous, and an illegal one. Marijuana trafficking is common in the Valley, but selling cocaine can be even more lucrative.
"A kilo runs about 22 to 25,000 dollars a kilo...depending on what it is."
Police say 34-year old Josue Gonzalez and 31-year old Alma Huerta were caught with 18 pounds of cocaine worth around a quarter million dollars. The drugs weren't the only things seized in their Santa Rosa home.
"These 3 cars found at the scene are all registered to Gonzalez"
"They did confiscate a couple of vehicles that probably belong to them...and they probably purchased it with drug money."
Gonzalez and Huerta remain in the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center. Bond for each has been set at ten thousand dollars. Reporting from Cameron County, Abigail Camilo, KVEO Newscenter 23.
