HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — It continues to be a heated debate and now the senate is ready to launch an emotion charged debate on gun restrictions. This coming four months after the carnage at a Connecticut school spurred our President and Congress to address firearm violence.
In an opening showdown Thursday senators were scheduled to vote on an attempt by conservatives to scuttle the democratic bill before debate even started. On Wednesday two senators expanded the breakthrough agreement to expand background check on purchases of firearms from gunshows and off the internet.
Some parents believe stricter laws would be the answer in decreasing gun violence, but on the other hand the NRA released a statement saying " the background checks won't prevent the next shooting, will not solve violent crime and will not keep our kids safe in schools."
Meanwhile, groups around the country like "Moms Demand Action" are taking stance and demanding stricter gun control laws.
