Purse thief caught after answering victim's phone
HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Harlingen police arrested a woman, accused of stealing a purse, after she answered the victim's cell phone and implicated herself in the crime.
On Friday, June 13th police were dispatched to a business on the 600 block of South Expressway 77 in reference to a purse theft.
The victim informed the officer that she had placed her black purse, containing $600, on a chair while she was getting a manicure.
Surveillance video at the business showed another woman walking out of the establishment with the victim's purse. The victim called her cell phone, which was inside the purse, and the suspect answered the call indicating to the victim she was at Cinemark 16 where she found the purse.
Officers were dispatched to Cinemark 16 where they located the woman, identified as Annabel Guillen, 35, with the victim's purse, but the $600 was missing.
Guillen was arrested and charged with theft and handed a bond of $1,000.
