PHARR / SAN JUAN / ALAMO - The PSJA I.S.D. has officially joined the Equity Center Organization's legal fight for fair funding which is accusing the Texas Legislature of not treating students fairly.
School officials say some students are given thousands of dollars more than others that live in different parts of the state. The district joined in the fight on Tuesday afternoon in hopes of pushing the Legislature to come up with a finance system that would make sense to school districts and taxpayers. PSJA Superintendent Daniel King stated,"We're looking for equity for our students and also for taxpayers. What value is the taxpayer receiving for each dollar of taxes that they're paying. So we feel that the taxpayers of our district are not being treated equitably and our students are not being treated equitably."
The complete list of schools participating in the funding fight will be available next week and the Equity Center says they expect the number of schools to rise significantly throughout the next couple of weeks.
