SAN JUAN - Students are back to school, but for some, coming back means actually starting in a brand new school.

"It was getting kind of boring during the summer, and I am very excited to be here at Sorenson Elementary, in the New Sorenson," said Hunter Ortega, Fifth Grader.

But being at a new school still gave some added jitters to some students.

"I was real nervous. Because it was a big school and it was brand new so there was a lot of new kids," said Alexis De Leon, Fifth Grader.

And these won't be the only new hallways PSJA will be breaking in today.

"We are building a new PSJA and it is a several year process, we have been opening two to three new campuses a year, the last few years, this year is kind of the big hit, five at once," said Dr. Daniel King.

PSJA opened the doors to four new elementary schools and one new middle school. The school district also took the time to do some re-zoning as well.

Before this year, some elementary schools had 300 students, while others had over a thousand students. But now, each elementary school has on average between 600 to 800 students.
