The President of the American Sociological Association is traveling the country, touring minority serving colleges, and one of the stops was at the University of Texas Pan American.

ASA President Erik Wright visited the campus and gave a presentation to the students and took a tour with the faculty. He wants to make sure Sociology is a program thriving among minority institutions and inform students that it is realistic for them to pursue higher education with Sociology. Mr. Wright stated, "One of the things we are doing is talking to students about careers in sociology and how coming from an institution like this should not be viewed as an obstacle, that the education that students here get is excellent and that they can aspire to go to the very best graduate schools."
