Tropical storm Don is already in the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall late Friday night. Where the storm will hit is still uncertain but the Valley may be in its path. The time to prepare is now. Local hardware store employee Marcello Cruz says generators are sometimes the most important item.
“Generators would be helpful in this case because power lines go down especially during the last storm half the city was without power,” says Cruz.
Cruz says that generators are especially important for those homes that have elderly persons that require special medical attention. Cruz also says that protecting windows is crucial to storm preparation.
“We offer weather strippers for the doors and windows to prevent water from leaking inside and also caulking and lock tight which will prevent that,” says Cruz.
Preparing windows is important but so is placing sand bags outside of your doors. However, Cruz says there is often one item that gets overlooked.
“A weather radio is always helpful because if you lose communication with the outside,” says Cruz. “Your Internet is going to go down, cell phone towers are going to go down so a weather radio is always useful.”
