Pregnant woman found dead, husband arrested

HOUSTON, TEXAS (CNN) — A sad discovery in the Houston area. Investigators searching for a missing pregnant woman pulled a body from a creek in Harris County.
Authorities say 26 year-old Melissa Sowders was supposed to be meeting her ex-husband the day after Christmas, the same day she disappeared. Now Sowders ex-husband is charged with her murder, Tiffany Craig reports.
Guns drawn and yelling get on the ground, authorities moved in to get Matthew Sowders and his dad ended up in the middle, Reporter,
"Were you going somewhere?"
Matthew Sowders, " We were going to the bond place because we heard that the warrant's been issued. We were trying to cooperate."
That's not how the U.S. Marshals and county investigators saw it, they swooped in and arrested the 28 year-old father of four.
Dustan Neyland, Defense lawyer, "It's kind of more of a shock that he was arrested today so quickly after a body was found without even an autopsy or a cause of death being determined."
The arrest came 7 hours after searchers pulled the body of Melissa Sowders from Cypress Creek.
She was in the middle of a divorce from Matthew and was supposed to meet him at McDonald's to see one of their four kids and vanished.
Sonia Newsom, Melissa's mom, "Somebody took my sunshine away and nothing will ever bring her back but I love her very very much."
The 26 year-old woman's family is heartbroken, they can't believe anyone would be so cruel, Amber Newsom, Melissa's sister, "I'm just really sad and upset that somebody could do something so evil to her."
News of the arrest, brought a glimmer of hope for the family, exhausted and wanting answers, Michelle Bierman, Melissa's cousin, "We're happy this is a start for justice."
Sowders attorney can't imagine why the takedown was so intense, he says his client has nothing to hide, "He has been cooperative the entire time he's not a dangerous person he has no dangerous past he owns no weapons."
Investigators had no luck getting Sowders to talk, so it's off to county jail on a capital murder charge.
