Thousands of homes and streets were left without power in the Port Isabel and South Padre Island.
A.E.P. officials say that around 2,000 customers were without power for several hours which started around 11am. City Manager Ed Mesa says it happened when sand got into the electrical units because of high winds. The Port Isabel Police Department had to direct traffic in the downtown area because of the outage.
A.E.P. crews were able to restore power to all affected areas around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.
