Staying cool and staying safe can go hand-in-hand.

As temperatures climb into the triple digits, most kids are looking for ways to beat the heat.

One of those ways may be the pool, but before the little ones jump in, here are some safety tips that can make their next swim a little safer.

First and foremost, make sure the kids are wearing some type of floating device.

Whether it is a swim vest or inflatable arm floats, these act as a safeguard for children who can't swim or venture into the deep end.

If plans to install a backyard pool are on the to-do list, think of height as a way of making the pool safer.

The higher the wall of the pool, the more difficult it will be to accidentally fall in.

The ladder you choose can also be a safety tool.

If there are no rungs, then there is no entry. Think of this when choosing the best ladder.

A more expensive option is a pool alarm system.

There are many different types out there but they all sound an alarm when something or someone breaks the surface of the water.

There are even devices on the market to help pets escape the pool.

While safeguards exist, the best way to keep the pool area safe is parental supervision.

Nothing beats the buddy system to make sure no one is in the swimming pool alone.
