Will the new census be more accommodating to Spanish speaking Americans?
Former versions of the census including one in 2000 went out in English only. Next year, English and Spanish questionnaires will be mailed automatically for the first time, instead of by request only. About 13.5 million householders, in predominantly Spanish speaking neighborhoods, will receive the new forms.
Advocates hope the new bilingual paperwork will improve the accuracy of the census and help immigrants trust the government.
