Police Open Fire During Pursuit

Brownsville Police chief Carlos Garcia says the pursuit started Monday evening. The white truck was driving recklessly damaging property and vehicles. The pursuit led police though streets including Paso Real area near the airport. Allen Aguliar says he saw the white truck.

"He went over that way, I guess he saw some cops turned back around did a U-turn and hit a couple of cars."

Police say they tried pulling over the vehicle.

"The officer ordered him out of the car he threatened the officer by going at the officer with his vehicle, the officer responded in fear of his life by shooting at the individual."

Police say that did not stop him from continuing to drive recklessly.

"At one point he hit a tree an officer supported the initial officer subdued the suspect."

Police say the suspect was hit at least once. Police say he doing ok and the officer is doing fine.
The Cameron County Sheriff's department will be leading the investigation with the assistance of Brownsville police and the Department of Public Safety.
